He Will Bless you

There’s a song that took over Christian music in 2020. It’s called The Blessing. It was put out by Elevation Worship, Kari Jobe, and Cody Carnes. The song touched millions and even garnered a Grammy nomination in 2021. But I’m not here to convince you that it’s a good song. I just want you to know how much it touched me. It comes out of a verse found in Numbers 6 when God tells Moses to tell his brother Aaron and his sons to bless the people with a special blessing:

‘May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace.’

In the song, the singers go through this blessing, praying it over the listener just like God instructed Aaron and his sons to do. In the song, we pray that the favor of the Lord continues to encamp around the listener. We pray that God’s presence would go before them and around them, and beside them, and within them. We even go as far as to pray that the favor of the Lord would bless not just the listener but their children for generations and generations and generations to come.

This song is really a powerful blessing but that’s not the only reason I love it. In the verse that this concept is taken from, God gives Moses the instruction to tell Aaron and his sons to lead the congregation in this blessing, and then God ends His instruction with this statement (verse 27):

Whenever Aaron and his sons bless the people of Israel in my name, I myself will bless them.”

God tells Aaron to bless the people. But this is the crazy part, God says that whenever Aaron and his sons bless the people in His name, He Himself will bless them. Did you catch that? He Himself. The creator of the universe who outlined boundaries between the land and sea will bless them in His name and power. The God who made the earth just close enough to the sun to be warm but not burn. The God who paints a new sunset every day. The God who breathed life and it was. That God will bless you. It would be one thing if it was Aaron, it’s another thing if it’s Aaron and his sons. That would be even more manpower. That’s cool and all. But we are in a whole different league when the person who conquered death is blessing us. Not only that, this is a person who loves us enough to wake us up every day, knowing we will fall astray. That’s the God.

Whenever. That’s crazy. God. The most powerful being conceivable. Has given Aaron and His sons the ability to summon His power and bless the people in His name, whenever. Whenever and wherever they use this blessing. It can be 3 am, it can be at Walmart. God, Himself will bless the people.

You may have noticed I let some “we’s” and “us’s” in there. Isn’t this story about Aaron and his sons? They are long gone. But I don’t think this blessing is expired. Aaron and his sons were not just a random group. They were the Levites. They were the priests and musicians. They were those called by God to work for Him. They were those who had access to intercede for the people. But something happened since. When Jesus conquered the power of death, He ended the levels of separation that stopped regular people from being in community and communication with God. Revelation 5:10 says through His blood, He has made us all into priests and kings.

In Hebrews, it says that we can come boldly before the throne of grace. We don’t need a man to mediate between us and Jesus.

So what does this mean?

Not only do we have the power like the Levites to be in direct communication with God, but we have also been called to all step into the role of being those priests. Not only does that mean I, not just my pastor, am called to minister, but God will also bless when I ask Him to like He did with the Levites back in the day.

There is life and death in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21). So not only should we be careful not to speak death (that’s a whole other devotional), we should not cease speaking life.

Will you use your power to bless others?

This ministry could not function without your support and prayers. Continue to pray and share because you never know who may need an experience with God today.

I am actually in the process of writing my first book. This has been a dream of mine for years but it would not be possible without you. You can support this ministry financially through $ThoughtsByPace on Cash App or through the Donate tab on the website.
